The media are talking about it:

Aeronautics gives wings to Jet Cut

The Yssingelaise company has introduced water jet cutting of materials used in aeronautics, which today constitutes 85% of its outlets. It has doubled its turnover in three years.

Jet Cut is preparing to double its surface area next March, as an extension of its current site, on the industrial area of Lavé, in Yssingeaux. The company, which has therefore acquired an additional hectare of land, will then see its covered area exceed 6,000 m2. The success of this SME, which has doubled its turnover over the last three years, to reach € 10 million with its secondary establishment ATP, located in Clermont-Ferrand, can be explained by the winning of many markets in the aeronautics. “It now represents more than 85% of our outlets,” explains its director Florent Saby.

Robotisation

The workforce of Jet Cut should mean a hundred people in two to three years, against 70 currently with ATP. This development is part of an investment plan of 10 million euros over five years (including 6 million euros for 2018-2019) launched in 2016 which focuses on increasing capacities and modernizing industrial facilities. “By developing the robotization of certain repetitive tasks and by introducing new technologies such as ultrasonic machining”, notes Florent Saby.

And 30 years after its creation, Jet Cut has become the most dynamic component of the Energie Métal group, of which it therefore represents more than half of the turnover (19.5 million euros as of July 31, with 150 employees) . This industrial company, specializing in water jet cutting at overpressure (up to 6,000 bars), with the addition of abrasive, had a sister company (Jet Tronic) from which it has taken over the activity since it was established. stopped in Saint-Etienne about fifteen years ago. After flat cutting, she mastered three-dimensional cutting combined with drilling. Developing its own design capabilities, it came to produce parts that were previously manufactured in-house by the aircraft manufacturer Airbus. And today she works for most of the major aeronautical equipment manufacturers.

Historically focused on sheet metal work for the agricultural, railway, building, energy and defense sectors, the Rhône-Alpes Energie Métal group created in Amplepuis (Rhône) by Paul Lardet really took the turn in aeronautics from the 2000s. sector in which he was a pioneer in the introduction of water jet technology for cutting many materials. Whether these are particularly hard, such as titanium and inconel, or softer ones, such as aluminum or composites.

“Our entry into this market for which we now have many qualifications was initiated with Airbus, which introduced this means of cold cutting without tearing or deformation of the material”, explains Jocelyn Lardet, son of the founder and director of industrial performance of the group. family. Specifying that these are “both aerostructure parts such as the landing gears and others relating to the cabin layout or the aircraft engine”. Jet Cut, which also works for Dassault, Bombardier, Boeing, Safran, Pratt & Whitney, claims “the largest waterjet cutting capacity for aeronautics in Europe, in terms of variety of parts and size of the machine park “.
